Thank you for writing such a meaningful post with many layers. I've been rereading it. It made me think - how is paying into my 401k retirement plan contributing to capitalism? If I don't want to work until 67+, should I be investing differently? Curious if you've written about this in another post or have recommendations on what to read next.
I asked my friend Doug Lynam, who does SRI, for his thoughts and he agrees with the article:
"It's a big problem. But that doesn't mean there aren't great companies and funds out there who are sincerely practicing the best ESG policies available. Companies like PAX world and Calvert are good examples who do a good job with ESG ratings. I also like DFA funds. They're a bit more no nonsense.
The problem is there's no agency to regulate or standardize what classifies as ESG. Until we can all agree in a rating system it's the wild West. However there are a lot of good actors in this space, I would argue one of my firm is one of them."

Thank you for reading, Caitlin. That's a really complex topic. I'm guessing you've looked into social responsible investing? Even that is problematic. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/29/opinion/esg-investing-responsibility.html
